New Zealand software company Orion Health has won a contract to supply one of the world’s leading cancer treatment centres, located in New York City.

Auckland-based Orion develops software for the healthcare sector which allow hospital staff to store and look up patient medical records more easily.

One of its key products – called the Rhapsody Integration Engine – has been chosen to replace the current e-health system at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering was founded in downtown New York in 1884 and has long been one of the world’s premier cancer treatment and research institutions.

The centre was last year ranked number two in the US News & World Report’s ‘Top-Ranked Hospitals for Cancer’.

It has 470-beds and admits more than 24,000 patients yearly.

Paul Viskovich, who heads up Orion’s North American operations, said the company was proud to have been selected by Memorial Sloan Kettering.

“A reliable integration engine is a critical component for the IT strategies that drive quality-of-care improvements within the hospital setting,” he said.

Orion Health has about 500 employees worldwide and its products are used in more than 30 countries.

The company was founded in 1993 and is privately owned.
